Types of Implants

At AirportDent, we offer single-tooth, full arch, and mini dental implants to meet the needs of every patient suffering from damaged or missing teeth.

Single-tooth implants

One titanium post (the implant itself) and a dental crown to replace one missing tooth.

Full-arch dental implants

Replace most or all of your natural teeth to restore your entire smile using a removable implant-supported denture or a fixed implant.

Mini implants

These smaller dental implants are easier to place, and are often used for anterior teeth with non-pressure bearing surfaces. Due to their small size and minimally-invasive nature, mini-implants can often be placed in a single appointment using only a local anesthetic.

The Dental Implant Process

The dental implant process varies depending on which type of implant and restoration you receive, but treatment typically consists of four phases.

PLANNING

First, your treatment will be planned using X-rays and images of your mouth, and your dentist will determine the best position for your dental implant. The first appointment will include discussing goals, taking impressions and developing a treatment plan.

In some cases, an individualized dental plan is a straight forward plan to replace a single tooth (or two) with crowns. In other cases, such as mouth-wide decay, the dental plan may include extractions, bone grafting and full-mouth implants.

IMPLANT PLACEMENT

The placement process begins below the gum line. Your mouth will be numbed and a small incision will be made in your gums and jaw bone. Next, a titanium screw implant will be surgically placed in the area for best bone height where there is a missing tooth. After the implant is secured to the jaw bone, the area is cleaned and sutured shut.

In cases where patients are receiving four or more implants, temporary dentures are fabricated prior to implant placement and worn during the implant process. These functional teeth can be placed the same day. In cases with fewer implants needed, single tooth prosthetic is used to hold the space and cover the missing tooth.

Some patients need a bone grafting procedure to build up their jaw bone before implants can be placed. In these cases, the jaw bone must heal for three months prior to implant placement.

HEALING

This step typically takes between three and six months, and during this time your implant will “osseointegrate”. This means that your implant will bond with the surrounding jaw bone giving you a solid foundation for your new beautiful teeth when healing is complete.

RESTORATION

After the healing and osseointegration process is complete, your restoration will be checked to make sure that it fits perfectly and looks natural. Crown placement completes the restoration process, and you will leave our office with a fully-restored smile.

Frequently Asked Questions

Implants are a significant investment, and our office provides a variety of financing options and payment plants to make the implants accessible and affordable for more patients.
For a typical single implant, the total cost is approximately $3,500, which includes all appointments for the implant and crown. Removable implant-supported dentures are $12,500 per arch. Fixed implants are $26,500 per arch.
Because the implant process is phased over time, patients may distribute payments across a three-to-six-month period.

From start to finish, the dental implant process can take between three and six months. The duration depends on the patient’s individual treatment plan. In some cases, the process involves replacing one tooth that is already missing. This process is straightforward and involves design, implant placement, three-months of healing, and abutment and crown placement. In cases of extreme dental problems, such as mouth-wide decay, the treatment plan could involve extractions, bone grafting to strengthen the jaw bone, three months of healing, implant placement, and an additional three months of healing before final crown placement.

In almost all cases, patients will receive replacement teeth the same day as the implant placement. Even in the case of individual implants that cannot withstand any pressure or chewing during the healing process, our team will provide a temporary cosmetic tooth. In situations where more implants are needed, it can be possible to place temporary screw-in crowns the same day that the implants are placed. Only in very extreme and rare emergency situations do patients leave the office with missing teeth.

Our team takes the greatest care to provide a positive experience that is as pain free as possible. Because the bone tissue doesn’t sense pain, the only pain relates to tooth extraction and gum healing. The dentist will carefully deaden the area with local anesthetic and can offer general anesthetic in partnership with our oral surgeon, if the patient desires.

Most patients receive local anesthesia and remain alert during the procedure. It is possible to offer general anesthesia if desired. The implant procedure is fairly quick taking less than two hours in most cases.
